Technology must go hand in hand with institutional reform, says CJI Chandrachud

At the Supreme Court's Constitution Day celebrations, Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud said courts should reach out to citizens, rather than citizens having to reach out to courts, and that litigation must be simplified and made citizen-centric.

He asked that the technology built up during the pandemic be strengthened, not dismantled, but said technology alone is not enough: it must go with institutional reforms to resolve access to justice. Four e-initiatives were launched at the event: the virtual justice clock, the JustIS mobile app 2.0, the digital court, and S3WaaS websites for district courts.
